Right, so the combat system. It’s a mess. Genuinely. The timing window for parries feels like it was decided by a coin flip, and sometimes your inputs just get eaten. I spent a solid five minutes just trying to get the block to work against a basic guard, my character staggering around like a drunk at a wedding. The hit detection is wonky too, swords clipping through bodies with all the impact of a wet noodle. It’s the kind of jank that makes you laugh out loud, not rage quit. And then she lost. Obviously. The whole premise is built on her losing, so my flailing was basically just a formality.
The art style is that specific kind of unpolished that somehow loops back around to being charming. Like a sketchbook that got a bit too ambitious. The heroine has this permanent scowl that’s more cute than intimidating, and the prison setting is just a few grey blocks and some chains that look suspiciously like they were drawn with a mouse. But the animator, whoever they are, they knew where to put the effort. The way her armor gets progressively more damaged isn’t just a texture swap. There’s a real sense of weight to how the fabric tears, a deliberate slowness to the final few frames of a defeat animation that’s just… chef’s kiss. It’s the kind of detail you miss if you’re just clicking through.
The whole “winner takes it all” thing is, predictably, not about the loot. The fantasy setting is just a flimsy excuse for a very specific power dynamic, and the game doesn’t pretend otherwise. The losing screen is the main event. It’s a series of looping, increasingly desperate scenarios that are more about the humiliation of the defeat than the act itself. There’s one bit with a guard captain that’s just deliciously cruel, the way he just… you know what, never mind. I’m still thinking about the inventory screen. Why is the font for the health potions in Comic Sans? It’s such a bizarre choice. It completely shatters the grimy dungeon mood they spent all of two minutes building. Anyway. The guard captain. Top 3 Moments You’ll Want to Screenshot: the exact frame her breastplate gives up, the look on her face when the shackles first click shut, and that weird Comic Sans health potion. Dare to play it alone, or invite company?
