The mouse feels cheap. That's the first thing I notice, clicking around this Fuck Town thing. The plastic is too light, almost hollow, and the scroll wheel has this gritty resistance that makes my finger bones itch. I'm supposed to be a private detective, tailing some rich guy's wife, but I keep getting distracted by the sensation of the click, that unsatisfying little snap. The redhead secretary in the office, she's got this pixelated smirk and her blouse is unbuttoned one button too many, the classic setup. The humor is there, I guess, in the way the dialogue tries to be snappy. "I'm not cheating," the wife says, while her skirt is practically a belt. It's so blunt it loops back around to being funny.
The adventure part is mostly clicking on doors and bushes. You hide, you wait, you collect evidence. Or you don't. The whole point is to get as much pussy as you can, the game's own words, not mine. And the tactile part of my brain is starving. There's a scene where you finally corner the wife in a hotel room and the cumshot lands on her freckled shoulder. I just stared at it. The animation is a simple splatter, no weight, no warmth. I wanted the screen to feel sticky, you know? Like when you spill a little soda on your desk and forget about it. That slight tug on your forearm when you move. This was just pixels changing color. A real letdown for a game that promises so much sleaze.
I spent way too long on the secretary's hair. The redhead. It's three shades of orange, and one of them is almost neon. It doesn't move. Not a single strand. In a game about chasing and catching, everything is so static. You click, the scene jumps. You click, a text box tells you she moaned. But the sound is just a stock effect, tinny from my speakers. I think about other detective games, even the old Leisure Suit Larry ones, where the failure was part of the texture. Here, the failure is just a blank screen and a restart button. The private dick is more of a public nuisance, really. The whole thing feels like it was coded on a keyboard made of dry crackers.
