The Heist
I got stuck on the maze minigame for like ten minutes before I realized there's a skip button right there at the bottom. Classic Lesson of Passion move honestly, they always hide the quality of life stuff in plain sight. Rhett is this cocky safe cracker with a jawline that could cut glass and Audra is the officer who catches him, except catching him involves a lot of lingering stares and power plays that feel less like interrogation and more like foreplay with badges.
The dialogue system is weirdly specific. You have to pick options in this exact order or the scene just stops dead. 2, then 1-1, then 2-3, 3-4, 1-4, 2-2, 4-1, then "Slip..." and I'm sitting there wondering who designed this conversation tree while also being weirdly invested because the writing actually snaps when it gets going. Audra has this condescending drawl that Rhett keeps trying to undermine and failing, and the power dynamic shifts in ways that feel genuinely tense. There's a chase sequence that's basically a minigame where you pick directions and if you mess up she catches you and things get... instructive.
The criminal tag is doing a lot of work here. Rhett isn't some misunderstood antihero, he's a jerk who breaks into places and Audra is a VIP who happens to be an officer with very specific ideas about rehabilitation. The various endings depend on how much you resist or comply during those conversation checkpoints, and some of the bad ends are actually hotter than the good ones which is something I will never complain about. The robber fantasy is there but it's wrapped in this cat and mouse thing where the mouse keeps thinking he's winning until he very much isn't.
What bugs me though, and I keep coming back to this, is that the skip button for the maze is just sitting there unlabeled. No tooltip, no indication. You either suffer or you accidentally click it. That's a choice, I guess. The characteristics system where you pick dialogue to shape Rhett's personality is shallow but functional, mostly just flavor text between the scenes that matter. For a browser game that probably took an afternoon to play through all the endings, it sticks the landing on the specific dynamic it's selling. Officer and thief, tension and release, and enough bad decisions to fill a rap sheet.
