The mouse wheel scrolls back through dialogue and there’s this one bit where a character, I think her name’s Melody but I might be mixing her up with someone from a completely different Patreon project, she’s got this pink sheen on her skin like candy apple gloss and when you click to advance, the text doesn’t just appear, it sort of bleeds onto the screen, letter by letter, and the sound it makes is a wet little tap, like a finger on a sticky counter. That sound, I kept scrolling back just to hear it again while my own fingertips were resting on the plastic of my Logitech, and the disconnect between that cheap, hard surface and the imagined texture of her, it was doing something weird to my brain.
The automatic saves are a lifesaver because I kept hitting Esc to get to the menu, thinking I’d broken something. The ctrl to skip text is essential too, because honestly, some of the buildup is just waiting for the next contact, the next moment where the art goes from rough sketch lines to this soft, almost bruised watercolor around the edges of a breast or a thigh. The whole thing feels unpolished in a way that’s not a flaw, it’s like finding a diary with pages torn out. You see the pencil marks they forgot to erase. I spent way too long trying to see if the clothing would rip dynamically if I clicked on a specific spot, it doesn’t, but the way a piece of fabric just vanishes between one click and the next has its own kind of clumsy charm.
I forgot to check if there was a gallery mode. Got distracted by a scene with a tentacle that wasn’t even the main event, just a background detail in a jar on a shelf, and I kept poking at it with my cursor like an idiot. The whole thing runs in a browser window and my chrome crashed once, but the autosave had my back so I was right back to where I’d been, which was kneeling in some digital dungeon with text describing a warmth spreading across a character’s lap. The offline version from SubscribeStar is probably more stable, but the jank of the online build has its own vibe, like a game that’s still breathing and changing.
