The first CG in Buried Desires caught me off guard. Not because it was explicit, though it definitely is, but because of how the light falls across the desk. There's this weird attention to detail in the hentai scenes that the rest of the game doesn't bother with. The classroom backgrounds look like they were sketched during a lunch break, but then a character's expression during a pivotal moment will have this subtle shift that makes you forget the janky UI for a second.

You play a teacher returning to work after some incident. The game never really explains what happened, which bugged me at first. I kept clicking through dialogue expecting a flashback or something. Instead you just get these choice prompts that feel loaded, like every option is the wrong one. The college setting means everyone's technically an adult but the power dynamics are the whole point. There's this one student, I think her name was Mira, who keeps challenging you in class and the tension builds so slowly I almost forgot I was playing a porn game. Almost. Then a CG hits and it's anatomically detailed in ways that made me wonder why the developer spent time on vein placement but couldn't be bothered to align text boxes properly.

The visual novel structure is standard. Choices branch to different scenes, some locked behind earlier decisions I still haven't figured out. I spent twenty minutes trying to get a specific outcome with the literature professor only to realize I'd soft locked myself three choices back. The accessibility menu is actually decent though, font scaling and self voicing options that most games in this genre skip entirely. Weird priorities.

The teacher student stuff gets uncomfortable fast if you think about it too much. Which I guess is the point. The writing doesn't shy away from how messed up the situation is, even while presenting it as fantasy. There's a scene involving a private tutoring session that made me put my phone down for a minute. Not because it was too much, but because the dialogue felt too real compared to the cartoonish setup. I don't know if that's praise or criticism. The game certainly doesn't care which.
