The first CG hits and you realize the aunt’s tits are drawn with this weird shiny highlight that makes them look like plastic fruit. I don’t know why that stuck with me. Family At Home is a visual novel that doesn’t pretend to be anything else, you’re Alonso, stuck in a house with your mom, sister, aunt, and two other women because of some vague lockdown situation. The setup is basically a hentai logic puzzle. Five women, one guy, zero subtlety.
The translation is a mess. Genuinely. Sentences will just collapse halfway through and you’re left staring at dialogue like “I am feeling very today, Alonso.” It’s almost charming. Almost. The mom character, Elizabeth, has this scene where she’s supposed to be scolding you but the text is so broken it sounds like she’s having a stroke. I laughed. Then the next CG unlocked and I forgot what I was complaining about. The sister, Samantha, is the teen tag personified, all bratty dialogue and conveniently timed wardrobe malfunctions. There’s a moment where she bends over to pick up a remote and the game just holds on that image for an uncomfortable amount of time. You know exactly what you’re getting.
I wish the aunt’s route had more buildup. Victoria’s design is my favorite, that severe milf look with the glasses, but her scenes feel rushed compared to the others. The harem aspect means everyone just sort of throws themselves at Alonso with minimal resistance. Not that I expected a deep exploration of family dynamics, but still. The CG gallery fills up fast if you just click through every choice. I played this on my phone during a boring Zoom call, tabbing back and forth, and honestly that’s the ideal way to experience it. Don’t think too hard. The mom’s final scene has this one image where her expression is completely dead-eyed and it’s supposed to be passionate but it just looks like she’s dissociating. I can’t stop thinking about it.
