Rei’s a tired bastard running this dusty pawnshop in a shitty corner of Miyogawa, just grinding through life, half dead inside, pretending he doesn’t care about anything. Then Akari crashes into his world, literally stumbling in like some runaway princess in heels who never had to walk on real pavement before. She’s got that perfect rich girl face, tits that definitely do not belong in a place that smells like cigarettes and old metal, and eyes that are way too clean for those streets. You can almost feel Rei thinking “this is trouble” while he still lets her stay in the back room. It starts out almost wholesome, like a stray cat you feed one time and suddenly there’s a collar and food bowl. Except here the “bowl” is his futon and the way she leans over him when she’s asking something is absolutely not accidental. The VA for Akari sells it hard too, that soft “oops, did I bump you there” voice when she presses her chest against him made me slam Alt+Tab real fast when my Slack pinged.
What I liked is that her life sliding into his isn’t clean. Some scenes are cute and clumsy, like her trying to help in the shop and some creep customer “accidentally” brushing her ass while she forces a smile because she doesn’t want to make a scene. The game lets you decide if Rei steps in or just watches it happen and god, that choice hits different if you lean into the nastier side. That’s where the whole corruption thing really starts to taste good and rotten. Later, when the big corporate asshole Ryuichi shows up, you already know this guy. Perfect suit, money, that smirk like he already owns her body, and he talks to Rei like he’s literal trash. In one route I played, he corners Akari in a car, his hand on her thigh, sliding higher while she’s trying to keep a poker face. The line between “harassment” and “she’s starting to react to it against her will” gets thinner each click. Her voice cracks a bit when she tells him to stop, and I’m not gonna lie, that made the whole thing hit way harder than just text.
There are routes where you try to be the good guy, protect her, stand up to him, all that heroic porn-brain stuff. But the game clearly enjoys it more when you let things rot. The netorare flavor creeps in slowly. At first it is just Ryuichi touching her too long, letting his hand stay on her lower back, whispering shit in her ear while you stand there pretending it is fine. Then come those scenes where she comes home late, hair a bit messy, stockings torn, and she avoids eye contact while insisting “nothing happened.” The CGs love her curves, her chest pushed up in clothes that are slightly too tight, or ripped open by “accidents” in alleys and offices. If you choose to betray her trust, you get stuff like signing that contract you know will hand her over to the wolves, then watching her walk into a party alone in a dress Ryuichi paid for. There is this one moment in the office route where you’re in the next room, hearing muffled moans through a door while his voice stays calm and hers slowly loses the will to resist. The game lets you just stand there and listen. That stuck with me on my “morning after” brain, more than any big dramatic twist. Oh and there’s this tiny UI sound that plays every time a choice pops up, and for some reason it’s slightly higher pitched than all other clicks, and it annoyed the hell out of me and now I kind of miss it when I’m playing other VNs. Anyway, by the time you hit one of the endings, it feels less like you cleared a route and more like you just watched both of them sink at different speeds, and somehow that’s… exactly what made it hot.
