The pizza box is still warm when he opens the door. I don't know why that detail stuck with me, the little wisp of steam in the pixel art, but it did. Gay Dreams: Pizza Delivery. A title so aggressively stupid it circles back to genius. You're the guy who ordered, obviously, and the delivery boy is this lanky thing with a bad haircut and an expression that says he's been waiting for this tip all night. The fridge is empty, the party's over, and the only thing left to consume is... well.
There's a moment, right after the first button press, where the animation loops in a way that's almost hypnotic. The crust gets ignored. Completely. I kept thinking about Barthes and the pleasure of the text, how sometimes the most satisfying narratives are the ones that refuse to be anything but a delivery system for desire. This is a flash game that knows it's a flash game. The hard sex isn't particularly inventive, the positions are what you'd expect, but there's this one frame where the delivery guy's cap falls off and it just... stays on the floor for the rest of the scene. Nobody picks it up. I spent an unreasonable amount of time staring at that cap.
The sound design is basically nonexistent, just some wet slaps that loop with the same rhythm as my old washing machine. It's almost comforting. You click through the dialogue, which is mostly grunts and ellipses, and the whole thing is over in about the length of an actual pizza delivery. Except instead of grease, you're left with this strange, sticky feeling of having witnessed something so unpolished it becomes intimate. Like finding a polaroid in a used book. The gay dreams tag is earned, I guess, in the way a wet dream is earned. You don't choose it, it just happens, and then you wake up wondering why the pizza guy's hat is still on your brain's floor.
