You know what sticks with me after Hunger for Chaos? Not the tits, though there are plenty. It's that moment in the clinic when they hook you up to the machine and the screen flickers and suddenly you're not in a medical study anymore, you're in some medieval fantasy nightmare with monsters that want to do things to you that would make a hentai artist blush. And I'm sitting there thinking, this is what twenty grand buys you. A trip through your own trauma with tentacles.
The CG scenes are rough. Deliberately rough, like someone drew them on a napkin during a fever dream. But that's the whole point, right? This isn't supposed to be polished. It's supposed to feel wrong. And it does. The detective stuff, the mystery angle, it's all just window dressing for getting you into situations where things get weird and wet and violent. Torry Sanchez, that crazy bastard, he knows exactly what he's dragging you into. The fantasy elements bleed into the thriller bits until you can't tell what's the experiment and what's your character's actual memories of his dead mom and dying dad.
I wish the visual novel parts had more actual choices. Most of the time you're just clicking through, watching the trainwreck happen. But then you hit a scene where the monster, this thing with too many limbs and not enough skin, it's got you pinned and the text is describing things in that clinical, detached way that somehow makes it filthier than any moaning sound effect ever could. The mystery isn't really a mystery, you figure out pretty quick what the study is actually about, but the thriller tension comes from wondering how much worse it can get. And it gets worse. The fantasy world they shove you into feels like someone's personal hell, all dripping stone and flesh architecture, and the detective in you is supposed to piece together what happened to the other participants but honestly I was too distracted by the hentai logic of it all. You know the kind, where clothes dissolve and anatomy bends to whatever the scene needs. It's messy and uncomfortable and I kept clicking anyway.
