The CG in Let the Nightshine In has this raw, almost unfinished quality that I can't stop thinking about. Not in a bad way, more like finding an old doujin scan from 2004 on some forgotten imageboard. The lines are thick, the shading is simple, and honestly the anatomy goes a bit wonky in certain positions. But that's exactly what makes it hit different from all these polished modern titles that look like they were rendered in Blender by someone who's never actually touched another human being.

The setup is straightforward. Your asian friend is dating this black guy, and through a series of conversations and situations that I won't spoil, things develop into something more complicated. The interracial aspect is handled with this strange mix of fetishization and genuine curiosity that reminds me of early 2000s hentai before everyone got so weird about everything. There's one scene where the three of you are just talking in the living room, and the tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife. The dialogue is awkward in places, clearly written by someone whose first language isn't english, but somehow that makes it feel more real. Like reading a love confession scrawled on notebook paper.

I wish the choices mattered more. You get these dialogue options that seem important but then the story just kind of goes where it wants anyway. The relationship dynamics shift in ways that don't always make sense, and there's this one character moment that comes out of nowhere and then never gets addressed again. The whole thing runs in browser, which is convenient I guess, but I kept accidentally refreshing and losing my place. Still, there's something about the way the cg scenes are framed, these intimate close-ups that feel almost voyeuristic, that keeps pulling me back. It's messy and unpolished and I've gone through it three times now.
