Award for Most Honest Game Title goes to Catch the Swimms, because thatโs literally the entire thing. Youโre a hand. Not a character, not a person with motivations. A disembodied hand floating on a beach that grabs flying bikini parts as they arc across the screen. I spent twenty minutes opening and closing my fingers around padded cups, and honestly the first five times I missed I felt this genuine spike of frustration that surprised me. The hitbox for the string side ties is bullshit, and I never figured out if thatโs intentional.
The real model tag means what you think it does, and the jiggle physics are tuned to a very specific person who lives near a trampoline. This isnโt a fantasy artistโs interpretation of a body, itโs a single recorded woman whose swimsuit has apparently never heard of the concept of friction. Which brings me to catching objects, right? You swipe left to right but your periphery always betrays you. Thereโs this one green frilly piece that moves deceptively slow and then suddenly accelerates like itโs late for a meeting. I missed it three consecutive times and Iโm still not over it. The gradual reveal is the whole mechanical reward loop, and the game knows you're playing one-handed because the entire interface is designed for a single thumb on mobile.
Something about the arcade tube I grew up with kept flashing in my head while playing this, those claws that never grab anything, and I think that analogy works if you replace a plush bear with a detached cup size that I swear clips through itself for one frame when you successfully catch it. Or don't. I don't know anymore what we're critiquing. The beach background is the same static image the entire time and the waves don't move, which I only noticed because I got bored after unlocking all four angles and spent a full minute just staring at the sand texture wondering if anyone actually modeled it or just downloaded a jpeg. The reflex demand spikes around the two minute mark, then just stays there. It doesn't build. It just parks itself in your brain stem. Right before I closed the tab I scored a perfect catch on a black strapless top that technically was already offscreen, and the game counted it anyway.
