The first CG hits you like a truck, not because it's particularly well drawn, but because it's so aggressively unpolished you can't look away. The Blackout doesn't give a shit about your expectations. You're some student who faceplants on concrete for no reason, and now you're stuck in a mystery that feels like someone threw a visual novel into a blender with a fever dream. The art has this rough, almost sketchy quality, like the artist was rushing to get to the good parts. And honestly? The good parts are what you're here for.
The hentai scenes don't bother with subtlety. One minute you're piecing together why your memories are Swiss cheese, the next you're balls deep in a classmate who might know more than she's letting on. The dialogue during these moments reads like it was translated through three different languages and then back through Google Translate circa 2012. "Your thing is making my inside happy" is an actual line I screenshotted. It's terrible. I loved it. The student tag gets stretched thin here, everyone looks about five years older than they should, but the fantasy elements keep things interesting enough that you forgive the jank. There's this one scene with a girl who has heterochromia, and the way the CG renders her eyes makes her look like she's having a stroke, but the position is so absurdly hot you just roll with it.
The mystery plot is actually trying, which is almost annoying. Like, I'm here to crank one out, not solve why I blacked out near a convenience store. But then the game drops this twist about your identity being fabricated, and suddenly you're clicking through text faster because you genuinely want to know what the fuck is going on. The adventure tag carries weight here, choices branch in ways that affect which girls you can pursue, though the "puzzles" are mostly just clicking the obvious thing. Replay value comes from seeing all the CGs, which range from "did a human draw this" to "okay that's actually pretty good." The password system for extras is some 2005 Newgrounds energy and I respect it. Just don't expect the visuals to ever stop looking like they were made in MS Paint by someone who was very, very horny.
