The professor character has this dead eyed stare that makes me think he's already seen some shit go wrong in the lab. Which, fair. The whole setup is you're this academic with a god complex and a bunch of undergrads who somehow agreed to let you poke around their DNA. The first experiment I ran, I was trying to boost some basic stats, you know, standard mad science stuff, and the girl's skin just started shimmering this weird purple. Not what I clicked on at all. The game doesn't hold your hand when things go sideways, you just get this janky animation and a text box that's like "oops, unexpected results" while the student looks mildly concerned. Mildly! Her cells are literally rewriting themselves and she's just standing there in her lab coat like she forgot her homework.

The body modification angle is where it gets properly unhinged. Sometimes you're adding assets that would make a hentai artist blush, other times you're accidentally giving someone gills or extra joints. The CG scenes that pop off from successful experiments have that specific early 2000s eroge quality, all exaggerated proportions and fluids that don't quite obey physics. I wish the failure states were more varied though. After the fifth time a student just grows taller instead of whatever I was aiming for, it loses some punch. But then you'll hit a combo that works and suddenly there's a scene with tentacles that aren't even supposed to be in this build and you remember why you're clicking through menus at midnight.

The science theme is basically just window dressing for the corruption arc, which honestly, who's here for accurate lab protocols. There's this one student, glasses, quiet type, who has the best reactions when experiments go off script. Her sprite barely changes but the dialogue gets increasingly unhinged. Don't sleep on the random event where the equipment malfunctions and affects multiple subjects at once. That's where the real party starts. Just save before every experiment because the undo button is a lie and some mutations are permanent.
