Hector comes back to Rannai like a guy returning to his old favorite club that suddenly turned into a weird church. He is this chunky badger healer with soft hands and a very not-soft past, and the town feels familiar but twisted. Cute wooden houses, misty mornings, the forest that used to feel playful now looks like it is watching him. Literally. Roots move. Vines react when he walks. It all has that “something horny and supernatural is going on” energy. And in the middle of this, there is Cadgan. The wolf he used to secretly drool over. Smaller and bratty in the memories, now this massive wall of muscle, cold eyes, the kind of guy who fills a doorway without even trying, tail barely moving but you just know he could pin Hector with one paw and not break a sweat. The game lets you sit in that tension. Old crush, new body, too much history. You get a lot of moments where Hector is supposed to heal someone and instead he is very obviously eye-fucking them. Or being eye-fucked back.
What I really liked is how it feels like slow foreplay with the whole town. You wander around, pretending to be this respectable healer, while the camera and writing are absolutely obsessed with fur, thighs, and asses. Big asses, by the way. They really went for it. Cadgan walking away, tail up just enough, that heavy swagger, and Hector trying so hard to be professional while you as the player are basically zooming in mentally like a creep. There is a very funny early scene where Hector is treating an injured wolf, and his hands keep lingering a little too low on the hip. It looks like “oh I am checking this bruise” but we all know that is a very convenient excuse to grope. The wolf notices, obviously, and gives him this lazy grin, and instead of stopping, the game leans into it. A small shift of the body, a soft grind against Hector’s fingers, and your choices decide how bold that teasing becomes. It hits that voyeur vibe too. You catch glimpses through cracks in doors, reflections in windows, body shadows behind the curtains. Once I walked past a house and accidentally peeked on two guys making out, and the scene does not pause for you. It keeps going like you really are just some pervert standing outside, listening to muffled moans and wet sounds, pretending you are not jerking yourself off in your head.
As a lingerie designer, I was low-key jealous. The way they write fur, leather straps, half-open shirts, it is basically a lookbook for horny outfits. Some scenes are like, Hector standing way too close while bandaging someone’s chest, the wolf’s pecs squished together, fur damp, nipples just barely visible. I kept thinking what kind of harness I would put on him. Thick belt on the chest, small rings near the collarbone, something he could be grabbed by. The romance hits pretty raw sometimes, in that clumsy gay way. Hector is awkward, he blushes, he feels guilty about wanting to squeeze his old friend’s ass when he should ask about politics or the creepy duke. And then there are those rare quiet walks in the forest. Just the two of them, roots moving, branches curling like hands, the air thick and wet. Cadgan brushes behind him, huge body heat on Hector’s back, breath on his ear, pretending it is nothing. It is not subtle at all but somehow still feels intimate. My only real complaint is that sometimes the pacing gets weird, like you go from emotional confession to horny groping to “oh hey the trees want to eat you” in two clicks, and I was like, wait, I was mentally undressing this guy, not negotiating with demonic flora. But honestly, that mix of gay longing, dirty teasing, and the world itself acting like it wants to get in on the action is exactly what makes it stick in my head.
