Rockford is a fucking mess and I mean that as a compliment. The guy's a hotshot ADA who can't commit to a woman to save his life but will chase a twenty year old murder case like it's the last bus out of hell. Classic daddy issues except his dad was some black ops ghost who vanished and now a cold case file is poking at that wound. The writing actually gets this, the way he'll be mid flirtation with his ex, this homicide detective with legs for days and a grudge, and suddenly he's spiraling about justice and truth and whether the system is just a fancy lie we tell ourselves. The sex scenes hit different when the guy's psyche is crumbling.
The detective. God. That first scene where they're in her apartment and she's still pissed about how things ended but also unbuttoning her blouse, the animation is janky in that specific way where her tits move like they're underwater but honestly it works. Something about the slight wrongness makes it hotter, like a bootleg video you shouldn't be watching. The combat instructor character shows up later, all military bearing and "I'll teach you to fight" energy, and there's this moment in a training room where she's demonstrating a hold and it just. Becomes something else. The game doesn't pretend it's not going there.
What bugs me though, and I can't let this go, is the teacher character. Sweet, soft, supposed to be the heart of the thing. But her model's face has this dead eyed stare in half the renders, like she's seen the void and came back with a lesson plan. It's small but once you notice you can't unnotice. The oral scenes with her feel weird because of it even though the actual descriptions and buildup are solid. The creampie finish with the detective later almost makes up for it but then the violence tag kicks in and we're in flashback territory with Rockford's dad's unit and things get bloody fast. Not gory exactly but sudden, the way real violence is. The tonal whiplash from fucking to finding out about war crimes is something. Not sure if it's brilliant or broken.
The mobile port runs like ass on my phone but I kept tapping through anyway. The handjob scene in the office with the colleague, childhood friend turned work wife, happens way too early or maybe exactly when it should. I changed my mind three times writing this sentence.
