The Mock Award for Most Uncomfortably Accurate Portrayal of Rural Boredom goes to this game, hands down. Not because it’s polished. It’s not. The 2DCG art has this rough, almost sketched quality, like someone drew it in a hurry with their left hand while the right one was busy. Yuko’s tits are massive, sure, but they sit on her frame with a kind of heavy, awkward realism that makes you feel a bit like a peeping tom. And that’s the whole point, isn’t it.

Red is a little shit. A horny city kid dumped in a sleepy village with a deaf, oblivious grandfather, Hiroshi, who I kept imagining looked like a confused potato. The game is just a slow, grinding exploitation of Yuko’s neglected body. It starts with a grope in the kitchen while she’s washing rice. The sound of the water running covers the little gasp she makes. That detail stuck with me more than any of the actual sex. The way the game uses Hiroshi’s failing senses as a gameplay mechanic, basically, is grimly clever. You push boundaries while he squints at a newspaper three feet away. One time I was sure he’d turn around during a particularly aggressive feel in the storage shed, but he just farted and kept looking for a tool. The tension is all in the near-misses.

The oral sex scenes are sloppy, not in a hot way, but in a way that feels true to a woman who has no idea what she’s doing and a boy who learned everything from shitty internet porn. The vaginal sex, when it finally happens, is less a climax and more a depressing inevitability. The writing is blunt, sometimes clunky, but it captures a specific, grimy mood. I spent way too long trying to click on a jar of pickled plums in the background, convinced it was a hidden item. It wasn’t. That’s the game, really. A lot of waiting and a few sharp, nasty moments that make you forget you’re just staring at static images. The voyeurism tag is the core here, you’re always watching something you shouldn’t, and the game never lets you forget how grubby that feels.
