The sound design in Eldmere is a fucking mess. I don't mean that as a complaint, not really. It's this weird chiptune adjacent thing where the bass frequencies are all blown out like someone recorded a SID chip through a broken speaker, and the "sexy" scenes have this looping 8-bar melody that sounds like it was composed on a Game Boy with dying batteries. I spent twenty minutes just clicking through dialogue options with the headmistress character because her theme had this one arpeggio that kept resolving wrong. Deliberately wrong. The composer knew what they were doing.

That headmistress, by the way. Her ass is rendered with this almost obsessive attention to subsurface scattering while her face looks like a porcelain doll left too close to a radiator. The 3DCG in this thing is unpolished in ways that feel intentional, like someone took a high-end Daz3D render and then ran it through a compression algorithm from 2004. There's a scene where she bends over a desk to "inspect your training progress" and the way the light catches the curve of her, the slight pixelation at the edges where the mesh meets the background. It's hotter than it has any right to be. The male protagonist just stands there with this blank expression, and you can almost hear the programmer going "yeah, you're welcome."

The fantasy setting is basically window dressing for power dynamics dressed up as "training." Nobles, shadowed mistresses, whatever. The real game is in the obedience mechanics, which I still don't fully understand. Sometimes clicking the "resist" option makes them more interested, sometimes it locks you out of content. There's a scene with twins where I accidentally skipped three dialogue trees by picking the wrong response and I'm still annoyed about it. The teasing isn't just in the writing, it's in the whole structure. The game withholds like it's getting off on your confusion. And maybe it is. The whole thing feels like someone's private fantasy exported to Ren'Py without any of the rough edges sanded down, and that's exactly why I kept clicking.
