The first time I got a game over in God Tier Academy I actually laughed out loud, which is probably not the intended reaction for a horror tag but here we are. There's this scene early on where you try to use your unstable magic during combat training and instead of some cool anime power-up your character just sort of... explodes internally. The death screen is this grotesque ahegao face frozen mid-scream and I stared at it way too long. Something about the contrast between the polished 3D character models and how deliberately janky the death animations are got under my skin in a way proper horror games never do.

The blackmail setup is whatever, standard visual novel fare, but the ranking system creates this weird tension where you're constantly aware that everyone around you could kill you by accident. There's a monster girl named Vex who's S-rank and her introductory scene involves her casually mentioning she could "unmake your blood" while giving you a handjob under the desk during orientation. The animation loops are stiff but the voice work sells it, she sounds genuinely bored while describing your inevitable death. I kept thinking about that scene later during a group scene in the library where three characters are going at it and the camera keeps cutting to your protagonist's terrified expression. Is this supposed to be hot? I don't know anymore.

The gay content caught me off guard. There's a male classmate who offers to "help you practice" magic control and the scene that follows is surprisingly tender for a game where someone gets double penetrated by tentacles ten minutes later. The romance path with him is buried under three different dialogue trees and I only found it because I was trying to get the bad ending where the government executes your family. Which I did get, eventually. The credits rolled over a static image of your character's empty desk and I sat there feeling genuinely hollow. Not sure if that's a recommendation or a warning.
