That's either a bug or the most effective storytelling choice in the game and I still don't know which. The explicit scenes with the mermaid are genuinely affecting, all saltwater and desperation and the feeling you're being consumed in ways that have nothing to do with pleasure. There's a dream sequence involving her dragging you down to some kind of underwater... nest? lair? and the things you do there made me need a shower afterwards. Not in a bad way.

The mythology stuff gets tangled. Is she siren, nereid, something older? The game never answers and the village has like four different versions of the truth. I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out if the lighthouse keeper was her father or her first victim and the dialogue tree just looped. Still not sure if that's intentional. The mystery is maybe too obtuse for its own good but I haven't stopped thinking about it for three days so maybe it worked. Just wish the inventory system wasn't such ass. Why does a fishing rod take up the same space as a mystical conch shell? Never resolved that. Anyway the mermaid's voice is described with this broken poetry that's either beautifully translated or accidentally profound and I'll never know which. The way she says "come deeper" not "come closer"... that's going to live in my head rent free.

The character creator is barebones but the bikini options? holy shit. spent way too long just cycling through those tiny tops seeing how much sideboob I could get away with before the game even started. you pick hair and outfits and then bam you're at this fancy hawaii hotel called Coral Cove and there's four guys waiting to get all tangled up with you. the art is 2d but the expressions when they're flustered or horny, that slight blush creeping down the neck, it works. it really works.

the first guy I went for was this cocky surfer type who keeps calling you "little lady" and challenging you to stupid competitions. there's this one scene where he teaches you to surf and his hands are all over your hips "adjusting your stance" and the dialogue choices let you either act innocent or straight up grind back against him. I picked the grind option obviously and the way his voice line stuttered, chef's kiss. but then I replayed and went for the hotel owner, older guy, very "I own this place and I know what I want" energy. his route has this moment in the private hot tub where he just watches you undress and the power dynamic shifts like three times in one conversation. the teasing is relentless. you can make him beg. you can also let him take control completely and the writing doesn't judge either way which I appreciate.

the multiple endings thing means you can go full romance or just... not. there's a "vacation fling" path that ends with a pretty explicit goodbye scene in the hotel room, sheets everywhere, the morning light hitting just right. I wish the female domination options were a bit harder though. like you can tease and edge these guys but I wanted to actually tie one of them up with a lei or something, is that too much to ask? probably. the adventure tag is misleading, you're not exploring the island you're exploring these men's emotional baggage and also their pants. which is fine. that's what I'm here for. the hawaii setting is mostly just a pretty backdrop for getting railed in expensive hotel rooms but the ocean sound effects during the romantic scenes are a nice touch.
